New York Law Journal Quotes Thomas Rotko on Growing Prominence of Litigation Boutiques

A recent New York Law Journal article noted that 2025 was a busy year for litigation boutiques, as smaller, specialized law firms increasingly won business typically handled by BigLaw. The article cited several reasons for this, including greater efficiency and the fact that technology is leveling the playing field.

The story quoted Clayman Rosenberg Kirshner & Linder LLP managing partner Thomas Rotko. He noted that litigation boutiques are increasingly able to compete with larger firms due to the emergence of sophisticated, accessible legal technology.

“Whether it’s AI or other technology … we’re able to handle cases involving large amounts of documents and material where you might need 20 lawyers to comb through, if it was 20, 30 years ago,” Rotko said. “That’s a factor of why firms of our size are…punching above our weight.”

The article also highlighted differences in billing rates between boutiques and large firms and the trend of clients moving away from a one-stop-shop model for legal services.
